What is Champing?

Champing is a unique concept of camping overnight in historic churches. This ingenious idea was launched in 2015 by The Churches Conservation Trust, the national charity protecting historic churches at risk. So not only will you get an experience like no other but you will also be helping preserve these churches for future generations.

Over 10,000 happy Champers have stayed in their churches and have delighted in having exclusive use of an ancient space for the night.

And they are dog friendly and your furry friends can stay for free!! They do say up to two good dogs are welcome, or three if they’re small.

So what do you get from your stay?

Included is the use of camp beds, chairs, lanterns, battery powered candles, tea & coffee making facilities, and toilet facilities. You can also hire bedding for an extra fee.

It is a church so it can get quite cold, layer up and pack as if you were going to camp under the stars.

There is an option of breakfast from a venue near each church, and at some churches you can even get your breakfast delivered! Children are welcome, you can bring your own food and wine (they even provide the corkscrew and bottle opener for you). Although cooking within the church is prohibited.

What about Sunday Service?

Don’t worry about an early wake up call on Sunday or church bells ringing as all church buildings have been passed to the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. So no Sunday Services will be taking place.

When booking a stay you get the whole church to yourself!!!
